Research Associate / Research Fellow with Teaching Administration
Institute of Gerontology, King’s College London
The Institute of Gerontology at King’s College London is a renowned research
institute which runs multi-disciplinary postgraduate programmes. This post
provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience of working in a
supportive academic environment while pursuing your own research or writing.
The post is for six months, during which time you will provide cover for the
teaching administration usually undertaken by a lecturer who is on a
Fellowship placement. Joining an established teaching team, the post would
particularly suit a PhD candidate in the final stages of writing up,
immediately post qualification, an early-career researcher, or an
academic/researcher seeking temporary employment. A research interest in
ageing and the life-course from within the social sciences is preferred, but
you could come from any discipline. Knowledge of research methods would be
an advantage.
The post-holder will be expected to cover a number of administrative
functions including acting as course director for a 30 credit Research
Methods module and Admissions Tutor for the post-graduate intake of the
Department. Handover notes and induction will be provided, support will be
given by the Programme Director and Examinations Chair, and the post-holder
will be able to contact the lecturer for assistance and guidance about the
role. The administrative side of this role is estimated at approximately 3
days a week on average over the six months. When not undertaking teaching
administration, the post-holder is expected to work on their own research or
writing in the department.
The salary is offered on the Research Associate or Research Fellow scale up
to spine point 12, currently £20,851 to £29,991 plus £2,323 London
Allowance, depending on relevant qualifications and experience.
