Thanks for an encouraging reply, Malcolm. We had a similar problem with
the Gradebook recently when we copied a course and "lost" all the files
submitted by the users, so are tuned in a little to that problem. For
some courses we use the gradebook quite heavily and it seems to always
be the item that pops up in people's complaints after upgrades!
Best regards,
John

Hi John,
This should be feasible, we did something similar moving to new hardware
last July. The only thing I'd watch for is content attached to the user.
An example are portfolios (only a problem if you have the content
system). We missed this in our impact analysis with the result that all
users lost their portfolios when we migrated to the new system. The lack
of an import export tool in Blackboard means that the best we can offer
them is a meagre zip of the content. A pretty "Web 0.0" response!
Other than that, we have been very pleased with the result. Rather like
a fresh install of Windows, the servers seem to be running nicely
without the accumulated grunge from past upgrades.
Malcolm.

Subject: Starting Again
We have slipped behind with upgrades and patches and are currently stuck
in 6.1.0.Build 1, having twice failed to navigate through the many steps
required to reach version 7.0.
Rather than try again and, since our ultimate objective is to upgrade to
Enterprise, we are thinking that we might archive all our courses, start
again with new servers and software and restore the courses straight to
the new installation. Can anyone tell me whether this is feasible?
Grateful for any help you can give,
John Green,
