My understanding of Age Regs:
The UK, like Spain did choose to put in a retirement age when writing
age discrimination regulations. Many other EC countries have not, and
age concern are taking this to court in Strazbourg at present.
There is a 65years limit in UK but to do so company must follow a
procedure that is:
1 - ask person
2- if they say they want to keep working over 65years - then need to
arrange management and HR meeting
3 - managers can say yes or no and are not obliged by law to give a reason.
4 if say no must be in writing
5 He then has right to appeal.
You would need to get a lawyer or check it out on internet as to exact
pathway but is is along the lines written above.
If they deviate from set procedure (check it out precisely) then he
has grounds to ET for not following regulations.
