italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Caro Massimiliano,
Mentre in molti altri
lavoretto in cambio).
"pizza e mandolino"...
Cordialmente
Andrea Mammone

this message will be probably ignored, but at least i can say "i tried". i am
not going to talk about literature exactly, but more about italian politics
today and, more importantly, about italian culture and quality of life today.
yesterday, i was under the impression of being in a very confusing dream.
yesterday, in the city of bologna, golden medal for the italian "resistenza",
the mayor and the "questore" authorized a public parade by young people from
"forza nuova" in the very center of town. this group (you can google the name)
has a 100% neofascist ideology. they wear black shirts, they make the roman
salute, they write with black paint on the walls "froci ai forni", "per te
omosessuale nessun diritto", "no moschea", "islam raus", "froci=aids",
"negri=merda", they write swastikas on the walls and often have been convicted
and then released for violent aggressions they perpetrated. in italy we know
them, and although they are ideologically close to "alleanza nazionale" no
political party officialy accepts them. they exhibit images of mussolini and
hitler. yesterday, at the same time, groups of students and workers of the
radical left and from the "centri sociali" put together another street parade
to oppose the fascists. the newspapers today reported in a very negative way
the leftist spontaneous parade saying nothing on the ""legal"" one. walking at
night in rome alone for a gay or a trans is dangerous. there are more and more
cases of hate crime every day. most policemen dislike gay people and bring no
protection, facilitating the increasing violence and marginalization. whatever
your political ideas, it is a fact and it is written on the italian
constitution that the fascist ideology cannot be revived. still, the pope
launched a crused against gay marriage in italy calling us "nocivi per la
società" and "l'eclissi di dio". the italian catholic church of former hitler
supporter cardinal ratzinger and non democratic groups are more and more
attacking the dignity and the biological bodies of the minorities; and the
institutions, supported by hundreds of policemen (only yesterday, 450 in
service with stick and shields) are tolerating and perhaps approving this
escalation of violence, legitimating and enforcing racism, homophobia,
xenophobia, antisocial and antidemocratic furious intolerance.
thanks for yor time,
massimiliano chiamenti
