Problem with the hierarchy of needs is that people typical want (need?)
both bread and roses. Some years ago I was told of people in shanty
towns in Venezuela whose priority was an arts project to improve the
appearance of the neighbourhood - it didn't mean the daily struggle for
better housing and good food were unimportant, but that the idea of a
hierarchy of needs (satisfy the lower ones first) seems a bit simplistic.
Now how about conscientisation - problem again is that this comes from
outside psychology (like most of metaphors used in the discipline).
