Has anyone sensed that the "governance" here is becoming less like a
list and more like IBM or Morgan Stanley? I miss anarchy but I'll
settle for democracy if I can't get a street riot going. And I miss
most of all the idea that anyone...*anyone*...is magically shielded from
being offended. It's popular to dump on "political correctness" but
it's still very much alive. If you want to see what this place is
really made of, make a positive comment on certain subjects. How's
religion grab you? So we self-censor instead. Alison is now among the
May Not Be Discussed. Like bloody hell.
The Earl of Kent is my hero. He took one's part who's out of favor.

Quite true, Judy, you have, but sometimes it's necessary. It's just
offline personal offense that is a bit hard to take, no matter its
source. That's why I take my issues public. So there are witnesses. I
don't have private dialogues with listowners, I bring it right out in
the open. That way when I get kicked I know why.

I don't. I don't miss anyone I can't see or read. Deborah Humphries.
Jenniffer Lesh. Douglas Clark. Phantasmi. That's list life. Out of
sight, out of mind--no more original than that wind-broken cliche.
In the last 18 months I've been (in order) fired from five jobs, flunked
out of school, attempted suicide, gone to jail, and been physically
assaulted. So as for the "rules" of poetryetc, to quote James Bond, Do
I look as though I give a damn?
