It's the 'huff and puff' tone of the playground that gets me with
these events. I value most opinions on this list, and have made
friends from across oceans by its very existence, so I value
poetryetc. But point scoring and such is just a waste of time and
space. A bit of a biffo is to be expected occasionally, and, as Caleb
commented, it is often refreshing, but the sulks and the hurt pride
displays are childish. Email is a toneless vehicle so care with
contributions is sometimes a good thing.
I'll shut up now. I agree with one aspect of Alison's goodbye speech:
'etc' is a necessary and healthy part of this list's domain - prose,
music, art, theatre, sport, even politics, have made healthy
contributions to the magazine aspect. Let it long reign.
For a little new bloodstream, I'd like to see a review section. I
receive SPD's list of 'recommended books' and other such ads, but can
hardly buy off their descriptions. And I am often a long way from the
heart of the 'new poetry' of any school. I would enjoy a review
section, with Mark and Doug and Fred and Candice etc contributing
overviews of recent publications. Just an 'etc' thought, but in the
'poetry' bag.
Cheers to all ...
