Subject: Vacancy: OSS Watch Service Manager
Dear all,
Below is an advert for the post of OSS Watch Manager. Do please consider
it and/or pass it on to colleagues or relevant email lists.
I can honestly tell you it's a great job (which I would keep if I were
not about to move back to Canada!).
Best wishes, Randy Metcalfe, OSS Watch

OSS Watch Service Manager

Salary: UKP 32,795 - 39,160
Do you understand open source software, including the fundamental issues
and current trends? Are you able to raise awareness and provide guidance
about open source software in a non-advocacy role? Are you able to lead
a small team which provides a national service for universities and
colleges seeking unbiased advice about deploying and developing open
source software products? If you can answer yes to all these questions
then we invite you to consider applying to be the Service Manager of OSS
Watch, the national advisory service for open source software
(http://www.oss-watch.ac.uk/).
OSS Watch promotes awareness and understanding of the legal, social,
technical and economic issues that arise when educational institutions
engage with free and open source software. It does this by providing
unbiased advice and guidance to UK higher and further education. You
will apply your qualifications and experience in team leadership and
open source software to fulfilling OSS Watch's objectives, managing its
budget, promoting the service, and contributing to its strategic
development. The best candidates will also know from experience what
types of open source software projects are likely to succeed and
understand the requirements of the academic environment.
OSS Watch is funded by the JISC and based within Oxford University
Computing Services. Further details of the post and an application form
are available online at http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/jobs/ or by post from:
