Dear e-Science Directors Forum
I'm writing as chair of the ISSGC07 PC to have one last try at
encouraging
applications. I believe that as in previous years we have assembled a
very
good programme, composing presentation of principles, practical use of
existing grid technologies and experience of applications. This will
give a
significant boost to understanding, skills and awareness for all those
who
take part. The presenters include international experts from North
America,
Europe and Asia. They include industry and academia. Applications cover
a
range of disciplines.
There is an integrating practical tackled in teams over a day and a half
to
give real experience of addressing a research challenge using grids.
The
teams are encouraged to try a variety of technologies and methods. Every
team last year tried at least two technologies. We think that this
integrating practical develops confidence in choosing and using grid
technologies.
The discussion list set up by last year's students is still very active.
In each of the last three years there has been more than 20 students at
the
ISSGC from the UK. This year, I think we have only 5 UK applicants. I
think
that this means we're missing an important opportunity to keep
stimulating
our e-Science R&D and developing our capabilities.
Please consider whether thee are any research students, research
assistants,
or other staff that would benefit and encourage them to apply.
The dates are the 8th to 20th July 2007.
Location: Mariefred near Stockholm.
For more details and to apply:

We have 58 applicants so far that have submitted applications.
There are another 29 who have started to fill in the application form
(it
deliberately includes some self-assessment and some may not complete
it).
The current submission deadline is 15 May but that is to allow time for
visa
arrangements, etc. UK applicants would not have such problems and so we
may
consider them a little later - say up to the end of May.
We expect to have between 60 and 70 students at the summer school.
Please encourage colleagues and students to take advantage of this
opportunity.
