+++ APOLOGIES FOR CROSS-POSTING +++
The Oxford Institute of Ageing (OIA), University of Oxford, in collaboration
with the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), will hold a workshop
on "The drivers of population ageing in Central and Eastern Europe:
Fertility, mortality and migration", to take place in Oxford, September
19-21, 2007. We are hoping to encourage future collaborative research of
British and Central and Eastern European academics on demographic ageing and
its societal implications. The ESRC therefore provides funding for bringing
together 15 academics with a gerontological research interest from various
Central and Eastern European countries, matching them with 15 potential
British partners from the wider gerontological research community.
Participation is by invitation only. The main idea of the workshop is to
exchange information on population ageing in the respective countries to
inspire future research collaboration.
The workshop will begin with a joint dinner on Wednesday, September 19. The
scientific programme of the workshop is concentrated on one and a half days
on Thursday, September 20 (full day) and Friday, September 21 (half day,
closing after lunch).
The OIA and the ESRC also want to encourage the participation of young
researchers and research students from the economic and social sciences
based in the UK, with a research interest in ageing or demographic change
(mortality, fertility, migration) – but without previous interest in ageing
in Central and Eastern Europe. We therefore invite applications from
interested research students / young researchers matching these criteria for
5 bursaries that will cover all travel expenses (at standard rate) to and
from the Conference, as well as 2 night’s accommodation and all meals at the
Conference venue. At the Conference you will be given an expense claim form
for your travel expenses (please keep receipts). You will be reimbursed
direct to your bank account after the conference.
Applicants should send an email outlining their interest in the workshop,
together with their CV, to Andreas Hoff [log in to unmask] .
Submission deadline is June 10.
