Collaborative Studentships 2007
Applications are invited for the following PhD studentships:
Growing up in Scotland within an international context
Funded by the ESRC and the Scottish Executive, the overall aim of this
studentship is to carry out longitudinal and comparative secondary analysis
of several sweeps of the Growing up in Scotland longitudinal survey, and one
or more early years longitudinal survey in (an)other country/countries in a
policy-relevant area.
Antisocial behaviour and children: their spaces, relationships and
interactions with formal policy
Funded by the ESRC and Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People
(SCCYP), the aim of this studentship is to explore children’s understandings
and definitions of antisocial behaviour, and their experiences of antisocial
behaviour policy, located in their particular spaces, relationships and
their interactions with formal policy.
The new 'welfare market' and supporting the long-term unemployed
Funded by the ESRC and The Wise Group, this studentship has two aims; to
explore how employment service providers have adapted to the environment of
new ‘welfare markets’; and to assess the success of local employment
programmes for the long-term unemployed over time.
For all studentships, you should have, or expect to gain, an upper second or
first class honours degree in a relevant social science discipline.
You must also meet the ESRC requirements for residential eligibility.
Individuals with a substantial research component in their undergraduate
degrees, with research experience, or who are undertaking or have completed
an ESRC recognised research training Masters course will be at an advantage.
These studentships are offered on either a +3 or 1+3 year basis. The normal
ESRC grant will apply, with a supplement of £2000 pa. Interviews will be
held early July and the University year commences on 10 September 2007.
