I would be grateful if you could bring these two ESRC/CASE studentships to the notice of Masters students and others who might be interested.

Two full-time ESRC/CASE PhD Studentships
Applications are invited for two '+3' full-time ESRC/CASE Studentships, to begin in October 2007.
These three-year full-time studentships are supported by the ESRC and the Princess Royal Trust for Carers under the CASE studentship scheme for work on two innovative projects concerning informal (unpaid) family care. The lead academic supervisor for both projects is Professor Saul Becker.
1. Services and interventions for adult informal carers - what works and why?
This study will advance knowledge and understanding about the services, interventions and models of delivery that are associated with positive outcomes for adult informal carers, particularly in relation to assisting them in their caring role and in promoting their own health, well-being, participation and opportunities.
2. Children's informal caring roles, educational experiences and outcomes This study will advance knowledge about children's (young carers) unpaid caring roles, their experiences of school and educational outcomes.
The Studentships cover all tuition fees at the Home/EU rate (currently £3,200), and the student will receive an annual tax-free maintenance award that will be approximately £17,600 per year. The Studentships provide additional funds for research support costs. The successful candidates will join a group of researchers working on studies of informal care.
Candidates should have a good Honours degree in sociology, social policy, social work or a related discipline, and have, or expect to have by autumn 2007, a Masters qualification from an ESRC recognised research training course, or a Masters degree which includes a substantial research element, or equivalent research experience in a work setting.
