I have recently been looking at our Gateway Access Restrictions Policy
(Internet) and have found it to be inadequate.
There are two reasons for this:
1). The only time users know about it is when something is 'blocked' and
the document appears within the page
2). I have recently found inconsistencies in the way that the blocked
categories are applied.
Originally the document stated general categories of information that were
blocked e.g. pornography, drugs, etc. If users have a justifiable need
for specific access they can apply accordingly.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience of formulation/application of
policy of this type. I would also welcome views on the whole issue of
internet access restriction and the definition of 'acceptable use'.
