piCETL would like to invite you to the fifth annual problem-based learning
(PBL) Summer Workshop, held at the University of Leicester, 16-18 July
2007. (Formerly hosted by Project LeAP.)
This residential event gives you the opportunity to discuss and develop
your own PBL implementation, whether you are starting from scratch,
becoming involved in an existing programme, or are looking at ways of
refreshing and sustaining your present course. Experts and delegates will
be on hand to offer advice and support, and targeted workshop sessions will
occur throughout the three days. Delegates are also invited to make short
presentations, about research, practice, or plans.
The highlight of this year’s Summer Workshop will be a half-day session
with PBL expert and author Prof. Maggi Savin-Baden, introducing PBL in
Second Life, the online virtual environment. This session will be held in
piCETL’s new PBL teaching environment in the Department of Physics and
Astronomy, University of Leicester.
The Summer Workshop is suitable for anyone engaged or thinking of becoming
engaged in PBL. We welcome lecturers, tutors, course-, staff-, and
curriculum-developers, teachers, and facilitators. Although piCETL is
chiefly focussed on the physical sciences, the Summer Workshop is NOT
discipline-specific, and colleagues from the arts and social sciences will
be welcomed alongside those from the sciences, engineering, mathematics,
and IT fields.
The atmosphere is informal, the location (in the leafy Oadby Halls of
Residence) is convivial, and the food has been complemented every year!
Come and join us to learn about and share PBL practice, and to spend some
time thinking about your own implementation issues and goals.
Fees: £225 including registration, accommodation, and meals. Discounts
available for CETL and FDTL personnel, returning delegates, and presenters.
