Hi Mary,
I have been asked to provide training for Nursery Nurses who look after a little boy with a nut allergy. The parents have asked for the epipens to administer them should he experience an anaphylactic reaction. I have ordered the video/DVD from the anaphylaxis campaign; however I would be very interested in the training kit you talk about. Could you tell me which manufacturer supplied you with it?
I would also be grateful if any one has a policy surrounding administration of epipens or something similar.
Many thanks

Hi there just reading the threads on this. Surely the
first aiders would know the difference between an
anaphylactic reaction and a faint??
I have recently obtained a training kit from the
epipen manufacturers as I have work with apiarists
who provide training courses on bee keeping for
beginners.
Although their course information discourages those
known to experience anaphylaxis, we decided it was
best for the trainers to have some information on the
administration of adrenalin, just in case any
mavericks signed up.
I have trained the trainers using the pack and have
left it with them should they wish to 'refresh' their
knowledge.
The packs are only given out to healthcare
professionals and you will be asked for your NMC PIN,
which they verify before dispatching.
I have found www.anaphylaxis.org.uk and
www.allergyfoundation.com to be useful websites.
Best wishes
Mary
