Hi
As a former clinical manager of an NHS OH dept now self employed I would
allways say "stick to your guns 'darlin'". We have fought long and hard to
get ourselves regognised as a true professionals please keep documented
evidence of what you have advised, your day will come!

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] First Aid and OH
Hi All,
I work for a contracted OH&S company.
I attended one of my clients today to do routine health surveillance stuff,
and advised him (in writing) that the supplies that he has in his First Aid
room had expired. This included things like Burneze, Ralgex and Steripods.
This H&S person has no problem telling me that he would rather use this with
an employer or give them Paracetamol, to prevent them going home. I have
advised him verbally twice that these should be removed and that as a
competent 1st aider we should not be using this on employees not least when
they have expired!
He decided to put me in my place and state 'with respect darlin', you are
here to do OH assessments not advise on 1st Aid'. My response, of course
was 'with respect, i am here under an OH AND SAFETY remit...blah blah blah!
Can anyone advise where we as OH professionals stand with this? Any help as
always would be very greatly appreciated.
Regards
Rachael
