Dear List Members
The Welsh Mines Preservation Trust are carrying out an in depth survey of the remains at Bronfloyd Mine (SN 659 835), near Penrhyncoch, Ceredigion. We have spent one weekend at the mine and we are planning another one next month. We have located most of the features on the ground but the location of No 4 shaft remains a mystery.
We know that a new company took over the mine in 1862, and by 1869 with J B Balcombe as managing Director, work commenced on a further shaft No 4 to the west. Under the management of Thomas Kemp steam engines were installed at No 3 and No 4 shafts by 1871. We would be very interested to discover the location of No 4 shaft.
I would be most greatful for any information list members can offer on the location of No 4 shaft.
Thank you in advance
Best Wishes
