PAPER
This presentation focusses on the political and cultural representation of diasporic and migrant urban dwellers in the global city. It approaches politics of representation through the lens of urban life and its mediated politics of difference. Urban politics of representation are shaped around juxtapositions of difference and the creativity, dialogue, cultural and political formations, as well as in the conflicts that take place around those close encounters of difference in the city. This discussion draws from empirical work in London and New York City in arguing for the distinct significance of urban politics of representation.
