If you employ students in your library please read on...
If you employ students to staff the library issue / enquiry / help
desk(s) after 5pm during weekdays (excluding weekends for the purposes
of this query) I'd be most grateful to know the following:
1. How many students will be working in the library at any one time?
2. Do these students work alone or do they work alongside library
staff?
3. Do two or more students work together or do you ever have a
situation where students are lone-working?
4. Do the students use the library management system or do you avoid
this by being open for reference purposes only, or having self-service
issue machines etc?
5. At what time do these students start and finish work?
6. What other special arrangements have you had to make (if any)?
7. What level of student do you employ, ie undergraduate, postgraduate
or PhD?
8. Have there ever been any problems or complaints with regard to use
of students to help staff your library?
Thank you in anticipation of any responses which will be helpful in
presenting some evidence on this subject to Senior Management.
Please reply to me direct ([log in to unmask]) but I will summarise
for the list as is customary.
