Positions: Planets Senior Software Engineer, and Planets Senior Analyst
(Fixed term)
Location: Boston Spa, West Yorkshire
The British Library is one of the greatest research libraries in the
world. Our new strategic agenda is consolidating our position at the
forefront of international developments in collecting, delivering and
archiving electronic information.
How do we ensure we can preserve our unique and valuable digital
heritage and provide access to it in 10, 20, even 100 years time? What
happens when current formats become impossible to retrieve? What steps
should organisations take today to avoid a digital black hole tomorrow?
These are some of the challenging issues facing the PLANETS project team
(http://www.planets-project.eu). PLANETS is a collaborative European
project that brings together a consortium of national libraries,
national archives, research universities and technology companies. At
the heart of the programme is the aim of providing technology for
organisations to implement cost-effective digital preservation
solutions.
Exciting opportunities have arisen for a Senior Software Engineer and a
Senior Analyst to provide analysis and development skills for the
British Library's contributions to the Planets Project. You will join
the Library's technical team on this major European Union funded
research and technology development project. You will work closely with
an international team to define and develop the overall Planets
solutions and help to deploy them within the context of the Library's
information architecture. You will combine sound engineering practice
with innovative solutions to the core problems of digital preservation.
Closing date: 30th May 2007
