Hi Debian/Ubuntu users,
a new Debian package version is available (3.3.11-2). As there is no new
FSL release the package update just brings a refurbished Debian packaging
with some extra value.
The FSL config file is now located in /etc/fsl/fsl.sh (was:
/etc/fsl/fsl.conf). This was done to further reduce the differences
between the Debian packaging and the official FSL distribution. So if
you automatically source the config file in your shell config, you need
to update the file location. The new behaviour is documented in the
package docs and the FSL manpage.
Another new feature are desktop/menu files for all FSL GUI applications.
With those files FSL will be nicely integrated into your favorite
freedesktop.org-compliant desktop environment (e.g. KDE, GNOME, ...).
To make this possible, FSL GUI binaries are now called via a wrapper
script that automatically sources the FSL config. So if you use FSL only
via GUIs you can now simply type 'fsl' in the command line (or click the
menu entry) after installing the package and it will work. However, to
make full use of FSL's powerful commandline tools you still need to source the
config file manually.
The last noteable new feature is that FSLView now comes with its own manpage.
The full list of changes is available in the package changelog.
FSL binaries are available for Debian etch, Ubuntu dapper and edgy (i386
and amd64) other architectures and distributions will follow soon.
Cheers,
Michael
