Dear Orla,
Many thanks for the note, and for the pertinent questions on the EpiDoc
Guidelines. These questions are occasionally discussed on the Markup
list (http://lsv.uky.edu/archives/markup.html), but I shall summarise
what I see as the state of play here.
Actually I think that the statement "currently unpublished" is
inaccurate and should be removed, but that may still be open to
discussion. This is a draft work in the sense that it is in progress: as
you point out there are incomplete sections in the Guidelines, and some
of these are for real technical reasons and not just that the editors
are all overworked at their day jobs. ;-) We are in fact meeting
regularly at the moment to try and plan how best to fill these gaps. All
offers of help and contribution would be welcomed!
But I think the EpiDoc Guidelines as they stand *are* able to be used by
someone running an EpiDoc project. (Some of the holes might have to be
filled with the help of local expertise, reference to the TEI, by asking
the Markup Community, or referring to things like the InsAph local
EpiDoc documentation <http://insaphdocumentation.pbwiki.com/>. In fact
having new users will be one of the best ways to learn which holes are
the most urgent to fill, so again, all suggestions very welcome.) But
pretty much all of the basic recommendations of Leiden-compliant EpiDoc
usage are stable and can safely be used with the official DTD, the
Guidelines, and the "standard" XSLTs.
So I don't think I can answer your question about release date
accurately, but I hope the above has gone some way to filling you in on
development plans and status. I'll pose your question at this
afternoon's meeting and see if we can come up with a more concrete
response. (And document it somewhere.)
(Can you send me privately the broken link you found at the SF site, by
the way: I found that both the links from the sidebar and the main
screen under "Resources" > "Guidelines" work OK in Firefox and IE6, but
I know there have been problems with the Cocoon functionality on certain
platforms in the past, so a test would be useful.)
Many thanks,
Gabriel
