Dr. Haleh Esfandiari is a 67 year-old Iranian-American academic who was just imprisoned in Tehran while visting her mother. She is a leading scholar known for her academic integrity and for building bridges across the Middle East.
On May 8, after four months of virtual house arrest, she was taken away by security forces. She is now being held at Tehran's notorious Evin Prison. In 2003, Iranian-Canadian photo-journalist Zahra Kazemi was killed during her interrogation in the prison.
The arrest of Dr. Esfandiari has been condemned by the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the International Herald Tribune, and Human Rights Watch. Her colleagues from around the world fear for her health and her safety.
Please take a minute to support their appeal to the Iranian government to correct the mistake that has been made and free Haleh at once. Please follow the link below to send a letter to Iranian officials. Thank you!
