Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Protein Crystallography/Drug Design
School of Pharmacy Medicinal Chemistry & Structural Biology
A postdoctoral post in protein crystallography is available for a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in integrated structural biology approaches to developing treatments for cancer. The research project is funded by Cancer Research UK for the development of drug candidates targeted at cervical cancer and other high-risk human papillomavirus induced cancers. The successful candidate will use protein crystallography and integrated biophysical techniques to determine complex crystal structures of lead inhibitors with retinoblastoma tumour suppressor protein (pRb). The fellow will benefit from both state-of-the-art facilities in the crystallography laboratory and the collaborative environment of the Centre for Biomolecular Sciences located on the University Park campus. Facilities include nanolitre dispensing crystallisation robotics, and a modern high flux X-ray data collection system and access to synchrotron beamtime through the ESRF.
This post is based within the Division of Medicinal Chemistry and Structural Biology of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham in the groups of Professor Peter Fischer, Dr Jonas Emsley.
Candidates should have a PhD in protein crystallography.
Starting salary will be £24,402 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. This post is available from 1 October 2007 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of one year.
