Subject: Contemporary Art Workshop
Registration is now open for the Contemporary Art Workshop being held at Edna Manley College this summer. Classes go from Mon.-Fri., 2pm.- 8pm. You may take this workshop for 4 credits.
Description:
Art is an area which many of us have encountered before but perhaps don't always feel as knowledgeable or confident to speak about. The contemporary art Workshop is designed to give you a strong base for understanding contemporary art both locally and internationally. If you work in the creative sector, are seeking to invest by becoming a collector, wish to update your information, are a prospective or current student or just wish to be more knowledgeable about this elusive field, this workshop will provide you with comprehensive information. The workshops will use short screenings of major contemporary artists speaking about their work as well as slides, field trips, face-to-face and online discussions to get you up to speed. The course is conducted in association with the acclaimed Art:21 programme and the ART:Jamaica blog. We will look at the National Gallery's collection of rarely seen work by Jamaican artists as well as well-known international artists such as Matthew Barney, Louise Bourgeois, Barbara Kruger, Richard Serra, Kiki Smith and Susan Rothenberg.
Units to be covered: Art Appreciation, The Artistic Process, Modernism and Postmodernism, Installation, New Media Art, The Gallery System, The Triumph of Painting, Realism, the Real & Abstraction, High Art, Low Art & The Intuitive and Contemporary Issues & Politics.
There are a limited number of spaces so register early! Contact the Registry at 929-2350-2 or 960-3355 as well as by email at [log in to unmask]
