Hi Ali
We have encountered a similar problem at Northumbria, and have a number
of solutions which work to greater or lesser degree.
We run on Blackboard v7.0 Academic Suite. We have deliver to multiple
start date cohorts both campus based and distance learning (all
requiring different course sites) We take our course and student data
via the snapshot process from our student information system.
We have a number of ways of dealing with multiple course sites
1) At highest hierarchy level of courses (programme level) where joint
communication is required we create an additional course site which
includes all the datasets from the highest hierarchy course sites this
enable communication to all students from example on our family of
marketing programmes. This also allows for a single site of shared
content which can then be broken into groups across each of the subset
cohorts. You then maintain the access to the gradebook in a single
site.
2) Where the multiple occurrences of the same course site are needed to
be kept separate, for example the Campus based cohort, the Distance
Learning cohort and the collaborative partner cohort but generic
materials are shared across the three cohorts we recommend the use of
the Content Collection, which allows for workflow processes, versioning
etc to be set up. This can be useful where teams of academics are
working on single content.

Subject: Dealing with multiple sets of the same course
We have just bought Blackboard and are we are now trying to get used to
the structure of courses.
My problem at the moment is how to deal with multiple sets of a common
course ?
I teach on A level and GCSE courses ... so typically each subject will
have upto 6 or 7 sets. So we have set out to create a master course that
will then be copied into 6 or 7 individual courses that relate to each
set. eg AS Maths ->> AS Maths Set 1, AS Maths Set 2 ...
This is all very good and means that the grade book is easily managed
for
the teachers concerned. However, is there an easy way to maintain
several
sources at once. For instance, if I want all the AS Maths students to
get
an announcement, I don't seem to be able to do this without having to
edit
each individual set. Is there a version of the system announcement that
can be filtered to specific courses only ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
