    Closing Date: 09 May 2007

    Grade: Professorial (Salary: £ - £)

*Salary - The appointment will be made at an appropriate point on
the Professorial scale (but no less than £48,092 p.a.)*

Salford is a major provider of art and design education nationally
with over 1300 students studying from foundation level to PhD. Our
reputation is built on the real world relevance of our art and
design provision, research activities and engagement with industry.

The University is seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate as
Professor of Art and Design to make a significant contribution to
our research environment with its well established research groups
and international recognition. The post-holder will have the
experience and potential to lead multidisciplinary art and design
research, contribute to teaching and further develop a sustainable
    research culture.

Applications are sought from motivated and dynamic individuals who
have excellent research/practice portfolios in art and design in any
one (or more) of the curriculum or research disciplines that we
currently engage in. This might include, but is not limited to:
    Fashion; Graphic; Interior; Product Design; Design Management;
Design for Social Responsibility, Design Policy and Contemporary
    Arts Practice.

As an internationally recognised design researcher you will be
expected to continue to build your own research profile and
contribute to the leadership and strategic direction of art and
design research in the School. You will take over the leadership of
the Art & Design Research Centre, a constituent part of the Adelphi
Research Institute and work closely with the wider university
research community developing interdisciplinary collaboration. We
would expect the candidate to initiate and manage research bidding
through external research councils such as AHRC, and provide a lead
    on funding opportunities.
