Job Purpose:
Responsibility for the production of ABM in line with tight publication
schedules and budget control. Liaise with the manager regarding the quality
and currency of content and the implementation of developments.
Principal duties:
• Manage a team of freelance abstractors and indexers, recruiting and
training as required
• Monitor quality of work supplied, proofreading and editing to ensure
accuracy of information and consistency of indexing, and provide feedback to
freelancers as necessary
• Manage updates to ABM on the web, checking for quality and timeliness
• Identify new journals and other source material, and assess their value to ABM
• Maintain an accurate scope description for ABM and update journal coverage
notes, thesaurus and index terms accordingly
• Attend conferences, meetings and exhibitions from time to time to maintain
awareness of current issues and user needs in art research
• Assist with the Discovery Guides programme
• Any other editorial duties reasonably required for production of ABM
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Essential -
• Educated to degree level
• Excellent written English
• Knowledge of and interest in developments in fine art since 1880.
• Organised and methodical; able to create an organised workflow and
prioritise work to achieve production schedules and targets.
• Confident in use of the internet, and normal office software, specifically
Word, Excel, email.
Advantageous
• Knowledge of foreign languages an advantage
• Experience of abstracting and indexing services preferred
