It will looking at using local studies to link in to local and national initiatives, and speakers will include Nick Barratt who will be talking about the new project The Nation's Memorybank.
Looking at the big picture. Brian Ashley, Services Director for Libraries, Information and Communications, Nottingham City Libraries and Information Services, gives a personal and professional view on how Local Studies is well placed to contribute to the current regional and national agenda.
Family History and the media: behind the scenes of `Who do You Think You Are?` Nick Barratt, Historian, talks about working with the media and his new web based initiative Nation's Memorybank. .
The Front Page - engaging different audiences. Ruth Riding, Audience Development Officer, North Yorkshire Archives, describes taking the British Library idea and developing it into a workshop and exhibition which would appeal to young people interested in journalism and research using archive materials.
Living Literacy: using local studies to develop Key Stage 3 literacy skills. Cathy Petersen, Librarian, Derbyshire County Council, describes a partnership project working with secondary schools using a variety of local studies and ICT resources.
