In fact, it dates back to Fidonet days in the 1980's, and may have been around
on Compuserve and on GEnie in the early 1980's, too. People shared writing in
the form of files or (on Fidonet) in the form of files or in one story broken
into many parts. Sometimes these stories took the form of interactive fiction
or braided fiction with each person writing their own character's part. These
could go on for years and create quite a body of work that was read by others.
