Hi all,
My Trust introduced Purell alcohol hand rub a couple of years ago.
Overnight there was a significant drop in the number of people being
referred with skin problems due to hand washing. However, we did see a
cluster of cases where it was not being used correctly i.e. not allowing
it to dry before donning gloves or being very generous with the number
of doses applied. This brand contains emollients and is fairly kind to
the hands compared to harsh dispenser soaps.
Of course soap and water is also advisable in many scenarios especially
if the hands are visibly soiled and for particular infective cases eg
clostridium.
I started a thread on Jisc when we switched products due to the cluster
of cases and the archive may have some useful notes especially from
Chris Packham.

Hello
yes plenty of problems. This stuff should only be used when there is
no
access to a sink and soap.
For those who do use it they need to be educated in the correct
application,
i've seen some use 5 squirts, and need towels to dry!
For those who apply correctly and still have problems they need to
stop
using and an alternative product used. Soap and water are king.
regards
Glenn
