Hello, I would like to hear from people who have had experience of
getting their drawing work commissioned; how you went about it, how long
it took to find work using your drawing skills, how to approach,
negotiate with and pitch to clients etc. This could be with respect to
illustration, advertising, drafting, or generic design projects.
My specific interest is in scenography and the development of
pre-production ideas in motion pictures. However, the sources that I
found and pitched my skills to so far (I lose count sometimes of how
many approaches I have made) were at best unsuccessful in attempts to
secure contracted work in this field, especially in the UK.
A while back, I quit the corporate world and spent over a year
developing skills further, eventually focusing on scenographic visual
development (storyboarding), using drawing (not CGI). Now, again,
working an unrelated job is leaving me with little inspiration to create
new completed drawings outside of a sketch book.
I realise this network is primarily concerned with academic research
into drawing practice but if anyone can offer any reliable advice or
genuine contacts (but no weblinks please), I would really appreciate it.
Thank you for taking the time to read the email and if I hear from
anyone, for replying.
