Dear colleagues,
Whilst I agree with Cary that there is an advantage in allowing others
to input material, unless this is closely monitored and vetted it opens
the door to all sorts of unwanted editing and mis/dis/information.
Unless we are confident that we can appoint someone who has both the
knowledge, commitment and time to do so, it can become a liability
rather than an asset. I know from others involved in similar sites that
it takes several hours per day to block unwanted material.
My sense of it is that unless we are able to present a site that is well
vetted and monitored we may end up with something which will not help us
and may well become a liability. Do we have any volunteers (or can we
afford to pay someone) to oversee this? If not, I would agree with Carol
and others, only members should be allowed to input material, at least
for the time being. If successful, who knows we might be in a position
to pay someone to do so. A PhD student or two, would be perfect for the job.

I have explored a number of open source network software and found Wikispaces to provide pretty much everything we are likely to need. The Wiki space will be available for everyone to read on the web but I need to know if you think everyone or only members should have the ability to add and change content.
