Apologies for again returning to this but, like a dog with a bone, I
wasn't keen to let up until I knew one way or another about deploying
the "free" RealPlayer Enterprise. Today, I received a mail from David J
Smith at Real and I've extracted the salient info below.
"For the RealPlayer Enterprise as per
http://www.realnetworks.com/products/rpe/index.html , you cannot
deploy this across your institution through automated installer,
ghosting or imaging as redistribution is expressly prohibited within the
End User License Agreement. You are able to deploy, provided each user
individually registers, downloads and installs the RealPlayer
Enterprise. In most cases, this is not practical (due to central IT
control and allowing administration rights at each desktop to install).
Other keys points to note about RealPlayer Enterprise:
1. There is no support or service with the free RealPlayer Enterprise -
meaning no security patches, no updates or upgrades and no technical
support
2. RealNetworks has the right to alter its free usage policy with a 14
day notification period - this is contained within the EULA.
3. Redistribution is expressly prohibited.
4. RealNetworks tracks the downloads for RealPlayer Enterprise and
contacts all organisations within 45 days of download to ensure best
practise has been maintained and RealNetworks are members of independent
software piracy bodies."
