I've been using ZipGenius for years now and have never had the problems
that WinZip users have. You may want to give it a try:

In linux and cygwin, it's likely that tar is on the system. In that
case, the command
tar zxvf SPM5.tgz
should do the trick. Forgotten what the options 'zxvf' do, but they
never fail :).
