Five ESRC '+3' PhD Studentships
Exciting opportunities exist for prospective social science PhD students to join the new ESRC funded Research Group on Lifestyles, Values and Environment (RESOLVE) at the University of Surrey.
The RESOLVE project, which began in 2006 and runs for five years, involves four separate research groups in the University of Surrey: the Centre for Environmental Strategy, the Surrey Energy Economics Centre, the Environmental Psychology Research Group and the Department of Sociology. It aims to develop a robust understanding of the links between lifestyles, societal values and the environment, and to provide informed advice to policy-makers seeking to understand and to influence the behaviours and practices of 'energy consumers'.
The project now invites applications for five full time PhD studentships, to commence on October 1st 2007. Some broadly defined areas of study have been identified, but successful applicants will be encouraged and expected to specify further their own focus within these areas. Successful applicants will enjoy the normal benefits of supervision, training and support within the relevant academic department, but will also be active members of the RESOLVE team and have the opportunity to contribute to the development of its research.
These awards are open to those who satisfy the criteria of eligibility for ESRC '+ 3' studentships: UK residents, or EU residents who have lived in the UK for over three years, who hold an approved Masters qualification. Maintenance grants for ESRC studentships are currently worth £12,300 per annum (2006-07) and do not attract income tax or NI. For further details about ESRC funding arrangements and eligibility criteria, please consult the ESRC web site:
