I forgot one of my faves...Jude the Obscure, which could depress a
motivational speaker at a salesman's convention. The Last of the Just
indeed--beyond tears, ordinary definitions of sadness.
Oddly enough I would put Sophie's Choice in there. I am NOT trying to
turn this into a look at Holocaust literature, BTW.
