Not exactly graffiti, but when I worked at Newdigate Colliery in Warwickshire, it was the practice there not to seal off old districts, thus there were very many miles of old roadways dating back over a considerable period. The statutory inspections were carried out by an old deputy who was employed specifically for this purpose. When anyone died who had worked on these districts he would write their name and date of death in elegant script on, say, a road junction in the district. As the years rolled by the list of names accumulated to leave an unusual epitaph.
