I have yet to see this book but I have read some of his papers, no
doubt in the collection, and John Rule's reputation as an economic
and social historian is exceptional. In his paper 'The Perfect Wage
System? Tributing in the Cornish Mines' (1997) and his work on
'fatalism' amongst miners he presents arguments which transcend
regional boundaries and are valid in most mining fields
(particularly, of course, those with a Cornish / Methodists influence).
