The incredible journey - building great libraries for the digital age.
Five years ago the British Library embarked upon an incredible journey to redefine what it means to be a great library in the digital age. Now, as the BL considers what should be the next stage of its strategy, it is clear that much has been achieved but there is still much more to be done. The challenges - and the opportunities - open to libraries in the fast-moving and competitive information age are far greater than ever before. How should libraries engage with the Web 2.0 world?
This talk reflects upon 7 lessons Lynne Brindley has identified as crucial to redefining the library and, as libraries approach the next phase of digital development, considers the way forward with a specific focus on the BL's current Web 2.0 work; its approach to digitization in a European context; and its new national shared-service proposition with university libraries.
