Dear All
The horrible, leaking, falling to pieces building that the library now is
in, is due to be demolished by this time next year and the process of
building a brand new Education Centre has started. I've already been
contacted by the Project Managent Team to start the ball rolling as to what
the Library Services will require. The Education Centre is going to be very
large, as it (and the library) will be required to support the
multi-disciplinary staff from what will end up being Scotland's largest
Acute Hospital. Whilst there are other issues that we will face - including
the transfer of Yorkhill Children's Hospital onto this site, at the moment
our concern is the physical four walls that we will eventually inhabit.
Has anyone got any advice as to what to ask for? Are there anything's that I
should avoid? If you were building a brand new library from scratch what
would you want to see in the way of physical spaces ? What do you like about
the building/situation that you're in and what do you hate ?
The building will NOT be PFI and has to be multi-disciplinary and whilst
there will be an undergraduate element in some of it's facilitates (eg
lecture theatre space) there will be no specific undergraduate or even
medical requirement in the library.
So please get your thinking hats on so I can help plan the sort of space
that won't cause the next person in my post to curse my name
Many thanks
Charlotte
