Hi Claire
I don't think it's a metric that we've ever looked at before, although it was quick to find out the percentage from Horizon using SQL:
select count(item#) from item where due_date<datediff(dd,'1 Jan 1970',getdate())
select count(item#) from item where borrower#>0
The first SQL will give you the number of items that are overdue (i.e. were due back before today), and the second will give you the number of items on loan (i.e. have a borrower number attached to them).
You just need to divide the first value by the second, then multiply it by 100 to give you the percentage -- I'm sure someone might even be able to come up the a single SQL command to do all of that, but I'm still half asleep at the moment! In our case, it's currently 5.1% of items on loan are overdue.
I've no idea what an acceptable level would be, but I'd certainly be interested to know what value other libraries currently have.

Subject: Overdue statistics
Colleagues,
I wonder, does anyone keep statistics of the number of items overdue at a=
ny=20
one time as a percentage of the total number of items on loan at that tim=
e?=20
If so - or indeed, if you have any thoughts on what an acceptable level=20=
would be - I'd be very interested to hear from you.
Many thanks,
Claire Kidwell
