I read in today's news that there are plans to resurrect the old idea
of a tunnel underneath the Bering Strait. The fact that any such tunnel
would be twice as long as Folkestone-Calais is a small problem compared
with the fact that the Russian end would be at least 1000 miles from
the nearest main road, plus of course the fact that Alaska is not
currently connected (by rail) to either Canada or the rest of the US.
However......Google Maps may offer an alternative route in not-so-many
years time!
