Could I suggest an urgent fax or e-mail to the chief exec of the
company? I have had other sorts of problems with insurance companies in
the past, advice I was given by I cannot remember whom was if you have
any bother just write to the chief exec marked personal/confidential etc
etc. Has worked well for me, in the matter of ins companies pissing
around with claims.
But this Europ Assistance case and the demand for further info. Their
only possible justification for this would be that the patient may have
developed something relevant to present state since taking out the
policy and patient did not tell them, so allowing them to load or cancel
the policy.
This sort of thing does not usually happen with claims in the UK, AFAIK,
so is it simply a matter of the amount of money involved? Or what?
I agree it all smacks of taking advantage of someone in dire straits and
I think at the very least a formal complaint to the company, followed by
ABI and insurance ombudsman.
