Vacancy: Training Officer (10 months)
The Geneva-based Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) of the
Norwegian Refugee Council is looking for an experienced Training Officer
to strengthen the IDMC's training team. Mandated by the United Nations,
the IDMC is the leading international body monitoring internal
displacement worldwide and providing training on the protection of
Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to field-based actors. Target groups
of IDMC's activities include national and local authorities, international
agencies (UN and NGOs), local NGOs and leaders of displaced communities,
and national human rights institutions. For more information on the

Responsibilities
Among the Training Officer’s main task will be the planning of training
projects for relevant actors in countries affected by internal
displacement. This includes establishing contacts with field-based
partners, identifying their training needs, and designing country-specific
training programmes. The Training Officer is also responsible for the
delivery of training, based on the training modules developed by the IDMC,
and the facilitation of workshops in the field. Following the completion
of training workshops, the Training Officer is responsible for drafting
the final reports of workshops, their dissemination, and the monitoring of
the workshops' outcomes and impact. The Training Officer will also
contribute to the development of IDMC's training and protection activities
through the design of relevant training materials and the promotion of
training activities.
Qualifications and other requirements
Candidates should have an advanced University degree, as well as
documented in-depth knowledge in the field of international humanitarian
law and human rights, preferably with a focus on forced migration.
Applicants must have significant professional training experience. Field
experience, in particular in relation to the protection of IDPs, and
familiarity with the international humanitarian system at field and/or
headquarters level are essential. Fluency in English and excellent
drafting skills are a must. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
Candidates should be highly motivated, well organised, able to work
quickly and efficiently, within an international team, and available for
frequent missions to the field.
Candidates should preferably be available for this position from June
2007, or earlier.

Description:
Under the supervision of the IDMC’s Webmaster, the Database/Research
Assistant will assist the Monitoring and Advocacy Department with entering
information into the IDMC’s IDP database; researching information relevant
for the updating of country profiles included in the database; updating
and maintaining the Department’s distribution lists; providing
administrative and logis-tical support for the Department’s advocacy
activities; preparing, formatting and distributing country reports and
other documents; fixing broken links; and other assigned tasks.
Qualifications:
Candidates must be self motivated, extremely well-organized, collegial,
and able to function un-der pressure and handle numerous tasks
simultaneously. Strong interest in forced migration issues is a must; a
relevant first-level University degree and/or relevant practical
experience is desirable. The candidate must have solid
office/administration experience, demonstrated organisational skills, and
excellent computer skills. Outstanding oral and written communications
skills in Eng-lish are essential. Working knowledge of French is required.
