Hello Ilona,
Margaret Brooks has a paper in tracey the online drawing research
journal at Loughborough
www.lboro.ac.uk/deptments/ac/tracey/thin/brooks.html.
There are links to her PhD thesis which is very readable. 'Drawing to
learn, University of Alberta, Canada'. She used drawing with younger
children than year 8 but I think you might find her account of the role
of drawing in learning very interesting.
You could also try the special drawing issues of
1. engage review, issue 10, Autumn 2001
2. The International Journal of Art and Design Education, 21.3, 2002
Good luck.
