Nancy:
Your course sounds very interesting and pertinent to the groups that I deal with - that is people that produce and use media. I mostly try to engage folks from the Underdeveloped Nations. We are a company that is non-profit (but not in the tax way) - and provide free education to whoever registers - but again we target the underdeveloped nations. Our company is called TrainersPod and you can see some of our archived Webinars at www.trainerspod.com/CMS - We use Elluminate (www.elluminate.com) to present our materials and for discussion. I am writing to you to ask if you could provide the essentials of this course via Elluminate for us either as a 2 hour meeting or multiple sets of 2 hour meetings. We have our Webinars last only 2 hours since we realize the folks in Africa have to pay at the Cyber Cafes. If you and your colleagues (or anyone on this Listserv) could provide such a topic to our audience I would very much appreciate it. As a token of our gesture we send you a 128 MB USB Bus from TrainersPod. Thank you for considering us.

Copyright Clearance for Print, Broadcast and Multimedia Production

The essential one-day starter course for those needing to copy and use
existing content in their new productions and services.
Presented by Richard McCracken, head of IP at the Open University and
co-author of Buying and Clearing Rights (Print, Broadcast and Multimedia
Routledge, 1995) and Alma Hales, Deputy Head of Intellectual Property at the
Open University. This one-day course will offer participants a clearer
understanding of how to approach the process of rights clearance.
Participants will gain an understanding of:
€ types of works which are protected
€ rights ownership and licensing
€ the status of copyright exceptions
€ the meaning of Œfair dealing¹

Understanding copyright and how to clear the rights in existing content for
inclusion in new services and productions is a significant challenge for
producers, researchers and multimedia developers. Now universities and
colleges face these challenges as they plan to re-publish existing content
in online courseware delivered through Œvirtual learning environments¹.
There will be a practical hands-on workshop session and there will be a
session offering an opportunity to have your specific rights-related queries
answered by leading practitioners in the field.
