Dear all,
Following Chris Niedt's email, I telephoned Reed Exhibitions (contact
info below) to learn more, and this office does organise DSEI (and
the other similar exhibitions on their website), and views Elsevier
as their parent company.
From the website, I was starting to think they were rather
dissociated from one another, but from what they said on the
telephone, it seems Elsevier may have some kind of role in the
leadership of Reed Elsevier, and therefore Reed Exhibitions.
So that is encouraging in the sense that members of the public who
work in academia can have some kind of effect. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The financial statements of Reed Elsevier are not broken down by
division. So shareholders see a lump profit without seeing if
Elsevier Publishing is down, etc. However, a substantial portion of
their annual report is devoted to their efforts in promoting
corporate responsibility and environmentalism. Would they care about
their reputation (or Elsevier profits) enough to enter discussions
with Reed Exhibitions about their sponsorship of the defence industry?
Reed Exhibitions says it's the "leading events organiser" in the
world. It lists 15 markets, one of which is aerospace/defence/marine.
