Hi Tim:
There were some problems with the gcc4.2 package that we thought had
been cleared up with a new version of tar. It might be (hopefully,
from the fink point of view) that you tried this before doing a
general update.
In other words, what you would need to do is:
1. Download and install from the fink binary installer
2. Activate the "unstable" branch of fink by editing /sw/etc/fink.conf
3. Immediately issue
fink selfupdate
fink -y update-all
and hopefully then it would work.
I know compilation of gcc4.2 is a major waste of time, so you might
find it preferable to simply grab my debian packages and install
gcc4.2 (which supplies gfortran, so it is worth doing):
curl -O http://xanana.ucsc.edu/fink_10.4/10.4/unstable/main/binary-
darwin-powerpc/languages/gcc42-shlibs_4.1.9999-20070221_darwin-
powerpc.deb
curl -O http://xanana.ucsc.edu/fink_10.4/10.4/unstable/main/binary-
darwin-powerpc/languages/gcc42_4.1.9999-20070221_darwin-powerpc.deb
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
Alternatively, you can configure your fink installation to grab all
the binaries you need from mine:
