Colonial Rule and Spiritual Power: Obeah, the State, and Caribbean Culture

£24,402 plus allowance for London-based work
The School of Historical Studies at Newcastle University wishes to appoint a Research Associate to work on the Research Project 'Colonial Rule and Spiritual Power: Obeah, the State, and Caribbean Culture' directed by Dr. Diana Paton and funded by the Leverhulme Trust.
Your main responsibility will be to conduct archival research, primarily in London archives. You will therefore need to base yourself in or near London.
You should have a completed doctorate in a relevant field, or evidence of near completion. Ideally, you should have research interests in Caribbean history, the history of the African diaspora, or the history of witchcraft and the supernatural. You will have good time management and organisational skills, good English language and IT skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently.
The post is full-time for nineteen months, to commence 1 July 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter.
